ABSTRACT
Before explaining the historical, and chiefly biological, developments of photodynamic therapy (PDT) research, we would like to provide a survey of the chemical and physical properties of PDT. We would like to preface this section by saying that more detailed photophysical and photochemical explanations-as aided by quantum mechanical explanations-may be found elsewhere (Hamblin and Mróz 2008).
