ABSTRACT

It was at the beginning of July 1998 in the old imperial city of

Vienna, which has become a remarkable wealthy town out of the

ruins from the Great War. The Hofburg, residence of the Habsburg

emperors for several hundred years, was the place for the Second

World Conference on Photovoltaic Solar Energy and thus to start a

new era for the power production system at least in Europe. Austria

recently took over the European Union Presidency for the second

half of that year. The first world conference of that kind took place

four years ago in Hawaii and the initiative came now like before from

Hermann Scheer, the prophet of the Solar Age.
