ABSTRACT
On October 27th, 1984, a worldwide unique decision was taken in
the CO2-free, ecological Hotel Ucliva in Waltensburg, approximately
100 km north-west of St. Moritz in the south-eastern part of
Grisons/Switzerland. In 1985, the world’s first solarcar race, the
Tour de Sol, shall take place. With a solarcar race from the Lake of
Constance to the Lake of Geneva, the power of solar energy shall
be publicly proven. The initiators were convinced that solar energy
is not only useful in space, but can also drive vehicles.a The federal
board of the Swiss Association for Solar Energy unanimously agreed
to the regulations of the Tour de Sol and decided that the first Tour
de Sol (TdS) shall take place from June 25th to June 29th, 1985.
