ABSTRACT

Cable supported bridges commonly refer to suspension bridges and cable-stayed bridges where the superstructure load is supported and transferred by cables in the longitudinal direction of the bridge. ey are the most challenging bridge types to span long distance and dicult crossings. e main purpose of this chapter is to present the general procedure and special issues in seismic design of cablesupported bridges including suspension bridges and cable-stayed bridges. General design considerations for cable supported bridges are presented in Chapters 9 to 11 of Bridge Engineering Handbook, Second Edition: Superstructure Design.
