ABSTRACT
Recent challenges such as sustainable development and climate change, alongwith high profile technological controversies and failures, have brought ethical and normative elements of engineering practice into focus. Particular attention has been drawn to the need for engineers to actively engage with normative goals such as sustainability. This focuses attention on the agency of engineers within sociotechnical networks where these same networks can both enhance and constrain engineers’ capacities to contribute to positive change.
