ABSTRACT

Theoretically, resonance, which occurs with all types of vibrations, can be used to pick out specific frequencies from a complex vibration containing many frequencies (Perlman & McCusker 1970). For vibration systems, while the frequency of external force is approximately the same as the system natural frequency, the response can produce resonance increases (Inman 2010). And towards the fixed vibration system, its natural frequency depends on the frequency of varying input signals. In other words, it means resonance could do a job of filtering out signals. However, due to the randomness of inputs, there exist many challenges on how to acquire good filtering performance. Solutions to these challenges can be traced to the research on biological neuron filtering (Forture & Rose 1997, Hutcheon & Yarom 2000, Schnupp 2006, Tucci & Raugi 2011).
