ABSTRACT
The STEP (Standard for the Exchange of Product Model Data) [1] standard is to standardizing the description of information in the whole product life cycle, and the STEP standard is the standard for the exchange of perfect product data model. It provides a neutral mechanism which does not depend on the specific system, to realize the data exchange and share. This nature of the description makes it not only suitable for the swap file, also suitable for execution and share product database and archiving. The developed countries have put the STEP standard to the industrial application. Its application can significantly reduce the exchange cost of the information in product life cycle, improve the efficiency of product development, become important foundation for standard international cooperation and participation in international competition manufacturing industry, and it is an important tool to maintain the competitiveness of enterprises.
