ABSTRACT

Accurate tracking is the precondition and foundation for radar to recognize target correctly and intercept missile successfully. As a king of offensive weapon with advance performance, ballistic missile processes abnormal difficulty in tracking initialization for radar system because of its dramatic characteristics such as remote range, high flight speed, large acceleration and so on. Being a kind of typical non-cooperative target, unknown target type and various indeterminate factors including guided missile plate, type and magnitude of thrust, target mass and aerodynamic characteristics of target will bring great influence to radar tracking. As a special aerobat, and different from airplane and aerodynamic missile with dynamic engine, ballistic missile will be influenced more severely by gravity and aerodynamics and correct models have to be created in radar tracking. In order to increase penetration ability, new type of tactical ballistic missile often processes orbit maneuver in reentry stage or at the end of midsection, meanwhile, the type of maneuvering ballistic is various and the mode is complex. All the above have proposed grand challenges to radar tracking.
