ABSTRACT

Products are increasingly accompanied by services such as e.g. maintenance or leasing contracts. The provider of such services needs a comprehensive knowledge of the product properties during the planned period of operation, particularly the product reliability and availability as well as the costs in order to minimize its financial risk. Hence, powerful methods need to be applied to the development of these product-related services. The modeling and analysis of reliability and maintainability offers a great potential for the development of these services. The modeling power of several methods is compared in this paper. The main results of the analysis are the operational parameters of a product. They are an integral base for the development of product-related services as they provide the foundation for guaranteed performance values. Moreover, they can be applied to evaluate the financial risk for the provider of such services. This is demonstrated by two application examples.
