ABSTRACT

Performance of maintenance activities on an offshore installation is necessary to maintain safe and efficient operations. Maintenance activities are carried out with reference to plans for performance of maintenance tasks. To prevent that the performance of maintenance tasks will contribute to incidents or accidents, Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) should be a key concern throughout the planning and task execution process. This study contributes to the understanding of what attributes maintenance plans should have to prevent major accidents offshore and how the planning process should be organized to promote that the plans will come to have these attributes. The focus in this paper is on information needed for evaluation and assessment of maintenance and operational activities. The study reported here is based on interviews of offshore personnel working on one of the oil and gas producing installations on the Norwegian continental shelf and is limited to the offshore staff’s involvement in assessment of offshore activities.
