ABSTRACT

We report about two kinds of component importance measures which were introduced and studied by the authors (“On the construction of component importance measures for semi-Markov systems”, Math. Meth. Oper. Res. 77, 15–32 (2013)). These measures are defined in a state space framework accommodating multicomponent reliability systems with a semi-Markov time evolution, which is general enough to cover systems with repair and complex maintenance operations. In the present paper we concentrate on the steady state situation and show how the importance measures can be calculated explicitly by presenting a numerical case study for a simple and easily accessible two-component system with maintenance and repair. Some discussion and suggestions for further research are provided as well.
