ABSTRACT

In this article, a research approach is described exploring the correlation between the manufacturing quality and the lifetime of micro gears. A methodology is presented that aims to quantitatively describe the influence of geometric shape deviations and the material structure of micro gears on their lifetime. Based on this their lifetime dependent on the manufacturing quality is to be predicted. An experimental approach is proposed conducting systematic abrasive experiments of the micro gears by means of an experimental rig. Data of the geometric shape and the material structure of the micro gears as well as their failure times within the lifetime experiments are collected and combined in a model based on Weibull theory.
