ABSTRACT
Today Integrated Operations (IO) is the domineering operational concept on the Norwegian Continental Shelf. IO organizes collaboration in networks of people that are located at different sites to achieve specific capabilities. A person contained in a network may not necessarily engage in collaboration with or even know of all the other persons in the network. We use the term “Distributed Collaboration Structures” (DCS) to describe such networks. High quality in collaboration is necessary for IO to realize its potentials, and it implies that collaboration should be resilient. The study contributes to the development of an approach for assessing collaboration quality in a DCS as applied in IO. It is based on observations of collaboration in a specific DCS and on interviews with 22 of its stakeholders. The study suggests that a DCS can be decomposed into 11 phases and it proposes a set of assessment criteria for each phase.
