ABSTRACT

Since fire in a nuclear power plant has the potential to deteriorate or even destroy the required function of items important to safety, the assessment of the risk from fire events is an essential issue within nuclear safety analyses. A current research project at GRS aims at demonstrating how a combination of the MCDET simulation tool and the fire dynamics simulator code FDS can be used to analyse the effects of fire fighting in the frame of probabilistic fire risk analysis. The Crew-module of the MCDET tool is applied to account for the dynamics of fire fighting actions. The uncertainties considered in the analysis are handled by the probabilistic module of the MCDET tool. This paper gives an overview on the assumed fire scenario, the modelling concept of fire fighting actions and the encoding for the Crew-module. Moreover, it addresses the uncertainties and presents some results of their effects on the fire fighting process.
