ABSTRACT
A new size-effect model is here introduced with the aim of predicting the fracture energy of concrete, and the fracture toughness of ice as well, starting from few tests performed on a single scale. In the opinion of the authors, such model is founded on the golden section, which has been already observed in the size effect of crack pattern in concrete ties and beams (Fantilli & Chiaia 2013).
