ABSTRACT

This paper revisits the problem of inelastic buckling of annular plates and proposes a model based on plastic flow theory. The plastic buckling paradox is thereby avoided by deriving the constitutive relations of an infinitesimal plate element while considering this plate element in its slightly deformed shape just past the point of local buckling. It is demonstrated that the theory leads to excellent predictions of Bauer’s (1987, 1988) experimental results.
