Stiffened thin-walled members with open, closed and partially closed cross-sections are considered (Fig. 1).

The adopted displacement field is derived based on Kirchhoff plate theory and on the Kantorovich’s semivariational method. In this manner, the conventional deformation modes to be used in the GBT approach are expressed in terms of functions Uk (s), Vk (s) and Wk (s), and ϕk (z), which describes the amplitude of the modes along the member axis.
