ABSTRACT
The tests of cold-formed high strength stainless steel square and rectangular hollow sections in compression performed by Young & Lui (2005) were used to verify the finite element model developed in this study. In the verification of the FEM, a total of 7 cold-formed high strength stainless steel square and rectangular hollow section stub columns were analyzed. A comparison between the experimental and FEA results was carried out. It can be seen that a good agreement has been achieved between both results for all specimens. The failure mode observed from the tests was also verified by the finite element model, as shown in Figure 1.
