ABSTRACT

Shear reinforced members show a different behaviour. Not one single shear crack develops under transverse load but several parallel cracks (Figure 1, left side). The shear reinforcement is activated by the opening of these cracks. Depending on the amount of shear reinforcement the aforementioned rearrangement can be delayed. In addition, the analysis of tests shows a smooth transition between members without and with shear reinforcement (Görtz 2004, Muttoni & Fernández Ruiz 2008).
