ABSTRACT

The overview of an integrated SHM system for underground pipeline using wireless inclinometers is given in Figure 1. To identify the pipeline deflection due to surface loading or construction excavation, dual axis inclinometers are attached onto the top surface of the pipe in series along the longitudinal length. A few sensors consist of a set in charge of a certain area (e.g. Zone-1) and via cables are connected to a local RTU (Remote Terminal Unit). Based on wireless transmission techniques (GPRS, Zigbee or 3G), the on-site data can be sent to the management center for pipeline health monitoring and safety evaluation. This system is expected to work as a subsystem integrating to gas or water SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition System).
