ABSTRACT

When corrosion coursed by Cl-penetration or carbonation happens, there will be one rust accu-mulation layer on the steel rebar surface with cross section reduction. Generally, rust volume of corrosion is 2-4 times than steel volume lost, which is the reason for corrosion expansion of steel rebar in reinforcement concrete structure. If single mode fiber optic was winded around the steel rebar into coils, the rust expansion will lead to the elongation of fiber optic. According to the sensing principle of Brillouin sensing technique, strain distribution along the fiber optic coils can be detected by Brillouin Optical Time Domain Analysor (BOTDA).
