Improved subgrade reaction model in designing embedded piles exposed to static lateral head loads

The brass pile shafts were equipped with triple sets of strain gauges in 3 different depths. The model soil was dry medium coarse grained quartz sand, which was installed in layers by means of curtain raining method to achieve different initial densities between loose and very dense. The model piles were driven by means of a guided pushing process into the soil mass.
