ABSTRACT

Glazed facades are frequently used in buildings for their architectural features and aesthetical aspects. However, data gathered from past explosions indicate that more than 80-90% of injuries are caused by flying glass fragments and façade pieces. The disintegration of the glazed facades allow the blast pressure to enter the building causing injuries to the occupants and even structural collapse. This can be minimized if not eliminated, by designing the building façade for a credible blast event.
