ABSTRACT

Decision support systems are a specific class of computerized information systems that support business and organizational decision making activities (Mendonca, 2004). In the health care industry, they are called by clinical decision-support systems. These systems are computer programs that are designed to provide expert support for health professionals making clinical decisions being used for diagnosis, prevention, treatment of health diseases and future evaluation of the patients. Examples of such systems can be found in several disciplines in health care: dentistry, medicine, and pharmacy, among others.
