DEFINITION Phimosis, from the Greek word phimos, refers to the inability to retract the foreskin over the glans penis. Physiologic phimosis occurs in newborn boys up to 3 years of age, while pathologic phimosis develops usually secondary to distal scarring of the foreskin1.
