ABSTRACT
Some fundamental performance requirements should be satisfied when a solid-state fermentation bio reac tor is designed (Mitchell et al., 2006). It should 1. Contain the substrates (hermetic or semi hermetic). 2. Prevent the contamination from other micro organ isms as far
as possible. 3. Hold a proper temperature and humidity for the fermenta-
tion substrates. 4. Provide enough oxygen for the aerobic micro organ isms or
exclusion of oxygen for the anaerobic micro organ isms. 5. Be convenient for mixing and transportation of the substrates. 6. Be convenient for the isolation process of the fermentation
products. 7. Provide a uniform distribution of the substrates as far as possible.
