ABSTRACT

CC: Commissioner, please explain a little bit about your background in law enforcement.

CR: I’m a native Chicagoan, born and raised. I began my career in law enforcement at eighteen years old when I became a Chicago police cadet. I worked my way through the ranks, served in a variety of assignments and positions. In 1998, I was the deputy superintendent in the Chicago Police Department. I was one of the finalists for the position of superintendent and was not successful, but soon after I received a call from a search firm in Washington, D.C., asking if I would be interested in a police chief ’s position in D.C., and I took it.
