ABSTRACT

The molten carbonate fuel cell (MCFC) is another type of high-temperature fuel cells. Using carbonate salt as the electrolyte, the system can be operated around 650°C, above the melting point of carbonate salt. At such a high temperature, different from the low-temperature fuel cells, it is evident that the heat produced in an MCFC system can be utilized in fuel reforming and heatgeneration systems. Generally, considering the heat generation together with the power consumption, an MCFC can provide higher efciency, approaching 90% [1]. A high operation temperature also results in the application of cheaper materials rather than the precious noble metals. Therefore, MCFCs are considered to be the most promising fuel cell system for the near future.
