Bulbous plants are geophytes with a highly shortened stem along with fl eshy leaves or leaf bases forming an enlarged swollen underground storage structure called bulb. Plants with other types of storage organs like corms, rhizomes and tubers are also sometimes erroneously designated as bulbous plants. Some epiphytic orchids also form above ground storage organs that superfi cially resemble bulbs known as pseudo bulbs.
