ABSTRACT

Starting from a list of “logistics activities” and relying on a company’s analytical accounting, various surveys have tried to estimate the logistics activity as a percentage of the whole production value. An order of magnitude often quoted is about 10% of the final retail price of current consumer goods in developed countries,1 with a broad scattering according to products, and this average proportion is higher in developing and emerging countries. Within the production value field, one can evaluate the cost of logistics activities. An enquiry based on a sample of companies gives the cost percentage of the main production functions as shown in Figure 9.2.
