ABSTRACT

Introduction Legal and regulatory frameworks in the US play an increasingly important role in the successful deployment of corn-based biofuels and biotechnology innovations. Through legal and regulatory regimes, the US federal government mandates the commercialization of biofuels, controls the lawful commercialization of biofuels, and provides a means to protect intellectual property associated with biofuels and their feedstocks. As such, no comprehensive book on the bioenergy-related issues associated with maize would be complete without a chapter on relevant legal and regulatory issues.
