ABSTRACT

The Iron Pigs, the Untouchables, and the Reguladors support intimidating monikers and images as they roll through our nation’s highways on customized V-twin motorcycles clad in weathered leather vests covered in patches illustrating their belonging to a subculture outside the standards of traditional community. A closer look at these renegades reveals that they are not outlaws, but law enforcement. They are not working an undercover operation, but spending off-duty time in the company of other motorcycle enthusiasts who enjoy living outside the lines of standard police custom. Whether they are only imitating the desperado image or engaging in similar behavior, there is a connection between the cop culture and the outlaw motorcycle club (OMC).
