ABSTRACT

In Brazil, the legislation that regulates the Occupational Safety and Health work is supported by the Law 6.514/1977 along with the Ordinance 3.214/1978, which introduces the Regulatory Standards (in Portuguese, Normas Regulamentadoras, hereinafter, NR’s). At the present time there are 36 NR’s governing various activities that put the workers in danger; as an example we can mention: construction, working on heights, working in confined spaces, etc. (Brazil, 2013). The NR’s are mandatory for private and public companies and for public institutions of direct and indirect administration, as well as bodies of the Legislative and Judiciary, which have some employee under the Consolidated Labor Laws-CLT. The provisions contained in the NR’s are applied, as appropriate, to independent workers, entities or companies which use the service and to the unions representing their respective professional categories (Brazil, 2009).
