ABSTRACT

We acknowledge that the face is the most individually recognisable part of the human body, and it is generally accepted that no two faces are the same. Indeed, it has been stated that ‘No two faces are alike, not even those of identical twins’ (Wilkinson, 2004: p. 5). It may be impossible to verify this statement, having no database of all faces in the world to compare against one another, but neither is it possible to refute it. As a result, on the basis of experience and understanding, the statement is an acceptable truism.
