ABSTRACT

Despite this emerging recognition of the problem, the issue of unidentified bodies and people is still largely unacknowledged. As explained by Blythe and Woodforde (2007), many of the unidentified alive and deceased are likely to be considered as missing people, even if not reported. Whilst many are identified relatively quickly, there are a small number that will not be identified for a long time, if ever. As a virtue of their lack of identity, they are easily forgotten; they do not have family and friends to champion for them, to raise awareness of their case, and to bring it to resolution.
