ABSTRACT

There are many individuals involved in death investigations, each with their own role to play to ensure that any victims (if deceased) are identified and returned to their families. Coroners have a crucial function within forensic investigations as the coroner has the ultimate responsibility under statute for identification of individuals (UK Government, 2009). Thus, the correct identification of those who have died is a major concern and interest for coroners, both in single-death cases and mass fatality incidents (MFIs).
