ABSTRACT
This chapter aims to present a structured overview of the numerous methods and techniques employed to characterize ultrashort laser pulses. The variety of techniques is quite substantial and the common goal of all these techniques is to determine the electric field of an ultrashort laser pulse as precisely as possible. This quest is not as easy as it sounds and it took quite a number of years before practical, robust, and accurate methods emerged.
