ABSTRACT

The discovery of IgE by the Ishizakas1 in Denver, Colorado, USA and Johansson2 in Sweden in the year 1968 was the major scientifi c breakthrough for the specialty. Before their discovery, the practice of allergy was empirical and was not recognized by medical colleagues. Hence, several scientifi cally unproven techniques have developed over time.3-9 This chapter delineate relevant information in order to recognize the pitfalls in these procedures, so that sound judgment in patient care is observed.
