ABSTRACT

Several king crab species live in marine waters off Alaska: red king crab (P. camtschaticus), blue king crab (P. platypus), golden king crab (Lithodes aequispinus), and scarlet king crab (L. couesi). King crabs are distributed throughout Alaska from southeast Alaska to as far north as Norton Sound (Powell et al., 1983; Chapter 1). Red king, golden king, and blue king crabs support major commercial sheries in Alaska. Scarlet king crab are primarily caught as bycatch in the other king crab sheries.
