ABSTRACT

Intraocular pressure (IOP) measurement is a standard part of almost all ophthalmic visits; it is fundamental and of utmost importance in patients with the suspicion or diagnosis of glaucoma. The measurement on the flattened corneal surface is taken using a built-in duplication system in the measuring prism that divides the image and displaces the two semicircular halves from each other. In order to obtain the IOP measurement, the prism is brought in contact with the cornea so that the two semicircles appear. The Ocular Response Analyzer is an air-puff tonometer that, in addition to the traditional IOP measurement supplied, further indents the cornea with air pressure and measures the point at which the cornea recovers from applanation. A device that provides continuous IOP measurements would be a very important step toward better management of patients affected with glaucoma.
