ABSTRACT
Vascular Concepts has developed the first ever platinum activated stent. The rationale behind the platinum coating was to coat the base stainless steel surface with a more biocompatible, inert material that illicts a lower tissue reaction and injury upon implantation in the vessel. The objective was also to increase the radiopacity of the base stent by using a microthin platinum which provides uniform visibility before and after implantation.
