ABSTRACT

Linked Data has enjoyed considerable well-publicized success as a technology for publishing data in the World Wide Web1 and there is interest in Linked Data technologies for more than one purpose.

There is interest for the purpose of exposing information – for example public records – on the Internet in a machine-readable format. There is also interest in the use of Linked Data for inferring new information from existing information, for example in pharmaceutical applications or IBMWatson2. One common characteristic of these applications of Linked Data is that they are fundamentally read-only. Data served in this fashion is typically loaded into a datastore using some local access method and made available on the web or to a local application in read-only mode.
