ABSTRACT

Each of these four verses mentions metals, such as hiranya (gold), shyam (silver), loh (iron), sisam (lead), and trapu (tin).

The Sanskrit name for metals is loh. The term loh is derived from the etymological roots luh and karsane-meaning materials that are obtained by extraction from their respective ores/minerals. The other synonym for metals in Sanskrit is dhatu, which means deha dharanat (sustenance of body tissues). Dhatu provide nourishment and strength to body tissues; thus, the body is sustained in its natural healthy form.
