ABSTRACT
Laser and photonics technologies are capable of very high speeds and bandwidths, far beyond those available with state-of-the-art electronics such as those used in computers and wireless communications equipment. This capability is developed and exploited in two main technology areas: lightwave communications and ultrafast optics.
