Abstract . A short review is given about research in FEM in St . Petersburg
We review briefly some of the mathematical results on the FEM, which have been obtained in St . Petersburg. The most part of them was published in Russian and have not been easily available in the West . Many results are collected in the books on the FEM written in St . Petersburg [25] , [52] , [55] .
