Abstract . The maximum angle condition, which allows us to use arbitrarily narrow triangles with the maximum angle ,T satisfying the condition ,T ::; ,0 < 7r, is much more flexible in applications than the minimum angle condition. Until now the maxi­ mum angle condition has been studied in triangulations of polygonal domains and for triangular finite elements of the Lagrange type. In the presented paper results for both nonpolygonal domains and triangular finite elements of the Hermite type are presented.
