ABSTRACT

In this paper we consider inviscid, steady, transonic flows past a thin object. The transonic small disturbance formulation is presented and used. Three specific examples are discussed where asymptotic analysis is useful or necessary. The examples are (1) not-so-slender bodies, (2) far fields for near-sonic flow, and (3) choked wind tunnel flow. Asymptotic analysis reduces the number of parameters involved, simplifies the geometry, and clarifies far-field and near-field conditions.
