ABSTRACT

With the sample now considered as a singly right truncated sample from a Type III distribution, we set b2 = 0 and H = 0 and solve the system consisting of the first three equations of (11.4.1) plus (11.4.2) to obtain h* = 38.600670, bit = 54.1194, bf = 5.247727, and J* = 0. 766827. When these estimates are substituted into (11.2.13), we calculate J.l;* = 38.60, a* = 16.027, and a~ = 0.655. The mean referred to zero becomes E(X) = 38.60 + 79.95 = 118.55, and the lower limit is 69.61. A graduation of the sample data based on these estimates along with the original sample data and Shook's original graduation based on complete sample estimates is given in Table 11.1.
