ABSTRACT
Such a solution i s called a traveling wave solution and i s so named since the sequence {1jJ(k - t) hEZ is obtained from {'¢(k) hEZ by translation. The integer p is called the velocity of the traveling wave. When p > 0 (or p < 0) , the wave is said to be traveling in the positive direction (respectively neg ative direction) . When p = 0, we have the so called stationary or standing solution. It turns out that these are solutions of ordinary difference equa tions when the space variable is of dimension one. When we seek stationary solutions of the heat equation (6) for the plate, we actually end up with the time independent equation (20) .
