ABSTRACT

Today, more than half of the world’s population is living in towns or cities, and this tendency of urbanization is keeping on accelerating. The subsequent of urbanization has many environmental impacts, such as increasing unban energy consumption demand, urban pollutant dispersion problem and heat island effect. In addition, urbanization will cause land cover change which may significantly affect hydrologic variations. To adopt the hydrology change, a lot of new engineering measures, such as drainage and flood control system will be required. In addition, non-structural engineering measures such as real time monitoring and decision support and operation system is important. These real time hydro-data monitoring and decision support and operation system can make it possible to optimize the control and operation of canal network and hydraulic structures to avoid flood disasters.
